In 1991, Eddie Barrett began a small custom shop building cars, trucks, and motorcycles. What started as a passion quickly grew into a lifelong journey of craftsmanship and creativity. Eddie found his niche in lowriders and radical customs, earning a reputation for unique builds and attention to detail.
In the early years, success didn’t come easy. To keep the dream alive, Eddie took on any work that came his way — from fiberglass repair, wet sanding, and buffing to custom lettering, graphics, and paint. These behind-the-scenes jobs built not only relationships with local shops but also a strong reputation and a skill set that would define his career.
After several years, Eddie took on a management role at Classic Soft Trim, learning the corporate side of the automotive world — but realizing that the politics of that life weren’t for him. He soon returned to what he loved most: building and creating.
He set up shop in Portland, CT, in a space once occupied by legendary builder Tommy Engles of Highway Service. What started as a working partnership soon turned into an opportunity. Eddie began doing upholstery work for Tommy’s shop — but one project changed everything. After creating a custom motorcycle seat that blew everyone away, Tommy told him, “You’re doing all the motorcycle seats from now on.”
That moment sparked what would become Eddie Barrett Seats — a trusted name in custom motorcycle seats and upholstery. Word spread quickly through the motorcycle community, and soon Eddie’s craftsmanship was known far beyond Connecticut.
Over the years, Eddie faced health challenges that forced him to slow down and refocus. After meeting a surgeon who changed his life, he returned to the craft with a renewed purpose — to build a company that represents passion, quality, and integrity above all else.
Today, Eddie Barrett Seats, sold through Cycle Works By Atomic LLC continues that mission — creating custom motorcycle seats, interiors, and restoration work with the same care and dedication that started it all. Every stitch, every detail, and every design carries Eddie’s lifelong commitment to the craft.
